Train your nervous system for performance, not just survival

Most athletes unknowingly train in a state of chronic stress—wired, tense, and operating from a fight-or-flight baseline. While this can drive short bursts of intensity, it ultimately limits endurance, recovery, and consistency. At P3, we train the autonomic nervous system to become flexible—able to shift seamlessly between activation (performance) and regulation (recovery).


Through specific drills, awareness practices, and targeted protocols, athletes learn how to access calm, focused intensity instead of chaotic effort. The result? Lower heart rates at the same output, improved resilience under pressure, and the ability to perform on demand—not just when everything feels right.

Release stored tension to accelerate recovery

Tension is the silent performance killer. It accumulates in muscles, fascia, and even the subconscious, restricting movement efficiency and increasing energy cost. Most athletes try to push through it—but that only reinforces the problem.


We use targeted tension-release techniques—ranging from somatic work and mobility patterns to breath-led release strategies—to restore fluid movement and reduce unnecessary muscular effort. When tension is released, the body doesn’t just feel better—it performs better. Recovery accelerates, injury risk decreases, and energy becomes available for output instead of being wasted on internal resistance.

We assess and retrain breathing mechanics to restore diaphragmatic efficiency, rhythm, and control under load. We apply structured breathwork sessions that challenge and expand the respiratory system while also improving nervous system regulation. Why trust Dr. Mike?

ABOVE AND BEYOND...

When it comes to performance, most coaches understand training. Some understand physiology. But very few truly understand how the entire human system works together under pressure—and how to optimize it.


That’s where I’m different.


My background spans clinical practice, neuroscience, holistic nutrition, and performance optimization, allowing me to see beyond isolated metrics and into the complete system that drives performance. I don’t rely on trends or generic protocols. I apply decades of hands-on experience, scientific understanding, and real-world application to help athletes unlock what’s actually limiting them—and more importantly, how to remove those limitations.


But what truly sets me apart isn’t just education… it’s experience. As a competitive swimmer, I was introduced to lactate testing in the early 1990s by one of the true pioneers in the field, Dr. Jan Olbrecht. At a time when very few athletes even knew what lactate testing was, I was already learning how to apply it to improve performance. That early exposure shaped the way I look at training to this day—through the lens of precision, not guesswork.


My own athletic career reflects that same commitment to excellence. I am a world-record holder, a 31-time U.S. national champion, and a 2-time All-American—achievements that were not built on talent alone, but on understanding how to train smarter, recover better, and continuously refine the system behind performance. 


Over the past three decades, I’ve not only continued to use lactate testing—I’ve refined it. As a coach, I’ve implemented these methods with my own swimmers and consistently seen the difference it makes when training is aligned with true physiology. It removes the noise. It creates clarity. And it accelerates progress in a way that simply training harder never can.


Beyond the pool, I’ve had the opportunity to work with a wide range of high-level performers, including elite athletes, Olympians, heavyweight boxing champions, and NFL players. Across all of them, one truth remains the same: performance is never just physical. It’s mental, neurological, metabolic, and deeply systemic.


That’s why I don’t just provide data or training plans. I provide a complete performance system—one that integrates physiology, nervous system regulation, breathing, recovery, and optimization strategies into a cohesive, adaptable approach. Because real performance breakthroughs don’t come from doing more… they come from doing what actually works for your body.
